Position: Construction Project Manager (12-month contract)
Location: Richmond, VA onsite
Overview Our client is seeking a mission-driven Project Manager to support its Real Estate and Construction team in delivering healthcare environments that promote healing, innovation, and operational excellence. This role leads capital projects across clinical and support facilities—from strategic planning and design through construction and closeout. The ideal candidate brings deep healthcare construction experience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder needs in active clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities
Manage multiple healthcare construction projects ranging from 100M+, including inpatient, outpatient, research, and infrastructure facilities
Lead project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and execution in collaboration with clinical and operational stakeholders
Align construction activities with clinical operations to minimize disruption and optimize patient care
Develop and manage phasing plans, swing space strategies, and interim life safety measures for projects in active healthcare environments
Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clinical teams to ensure functional, safe, and healing spaces
Oversee medical equipment planning and integration, ensuring seamless coordination with design and construction timelines
Facilitate design reviews, ICRA assessments, life safety evaluations, and commissioning activities
Ensure compliance with NFPA 101, FGI Guidelines, Joint Commission standards, and state/federal building codes
Lead change management efforts across scope, budget, and schedule, maintaining transparency and control
Support procurement processes including RFP development, bid evaluations, and contract administration
Provide clear and timely project updates to leadership, governance committees, and operational partners
Promote sustainability, accessibility, and equity in all project outcomes
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
Minimum 7 years of experience managing healthcare construction projects, preferably in active clinical environments
Strong knowledge of healthcare design and construction delivery methods (e.g., CMAR, Design-Build)
Familiarity with healthcare codes, NFPA 101, FGI Guidelines, ICRA protocols, and Virginia building regulations
Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Procore, eBuilder, MS Project, Kahua)
PMP, CCM, CHC, or LEED accreditation preferred
