What You'll Be Challenged To Do Join our Water Resources team, an integral part of our broader Transportation Design group. Our team is involved in a diverse range of roadway projects including new roadway construction, widening and modernization of existing corridors, bridge and culvert replacements, intersection and interchange improvements, as well as bike/pedestrian paths, greenways, and sidewalk enhancements. Beyond transportation projects, the Water Resources group also supports initiatives in planning, environmental studies, and land development especially where floodplain management expertise is critical. These projects present opportunities to broaden professional experience and grow within a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

You’ll work closely with planners, engineers, designers, traffic specialists, surveyors, and structural teams to develop design plans for a wide variety of infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities

Serve as a Water Resources Engineer on multidisciplinary teams, contributing technical expertise to transportation, land development, and planning projects.

Conduct field reconnaissance and site assessments to document hydrologic and hydraulic conditions, identify design constraints, and collect data for modeling and analysis.

Develop hydraulic designs for bridges, culverts, stormwater systems, and floodplain crossings using software such as HEC-RAS, GeoPak, MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD). Compute flow rates, perform hydraulic modeling, and analyze water surface elevations.

Design stormwater drainage systems and erosion and sediment control plans in accordance with local, state (e.g., SCDOT), and federal regulations. Select BMPs, prepare drainage area maps, and complete calculations for pipes, channels, basins, and outlet structures.

Prepare high-quality design documents including plan sets, profiles, cross-sections, details, specifications, quantity estimates, and construction cost estimates.

Write and assemble technical reports and permit submittals for review and approval by regulatory agencies such as SCDOT, FEMA, and local municipalities.

Participate in internal and external project meetings to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, present findings, address technical issues, and provide project updates.

Liaise with clients, permitting agencies, and review authorities to ensure compliance with standards and facilitate approvals.

Contribute to project planning by assisting in scope, schedules, budgets, and identifying risks and mitigation strategies related to water resources components.

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff, review their work, and support professional development.

Qualifications

Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in South Carolina.

3–6 years of Water Resources experience.

Experience in design of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.

Familiarity with hydraulic design standards and practices for SCDOT projects.

Compensation The salary range for this position is $86,000–$130,000, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
