About the Role Join a nationally recognized building-systems design firm that delivers high-performance, sustainable MEP solutions for commercial, higher-education, life-science, and mission-critical campuses. As the Mechanical Project Engineer, you will own the mechanical scope from concept through construction, partnering closely with architects, owners, and multidisciplinary teams to bring complex facilities to life while mentoring junior staff and shaping project strategy. Key Responsibilities Serve as day-to-day project lead, managing scope, schedule, and budget while acting as the primary client interface. Conduct and direct detailed site surveys to verify existing conditions and capture field data for design input. Develop HVAC and plumbing system concepts, perform load calculations, and select major equipment (chillers, boilers, pumps, air-handling units, etc.) Produce and peer-review Revit/BIM models, drawings, specifications, and system narratives that meet firm quality standards and applicable codes. Oversee construction-phase services - respond to RFIs, review shop submittals, perform site visits, and generate punch-list reports Guide and coach junior engineers and designers, balancing workload and ensuring technical excellence. Coordinate with discipline leads on scope changes and additional services, proactively communicating impacts to stakeholders Represent the firm at design reviews, commissioning meetings, and occasional regional site visits. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. 5 + years of building-mechanical design and project-management experience. Proficiency with Revit and load-calculation software (e.g., Trace3D Plus, HAP). Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, IMC, IBC, and North Carolina building codes. Ability to climb ladders, access ceiling plenums, and carry up to 25 lbs during surveys. E. license (or ability to obtain within 12 months) preferred.
