Job Description

This is the second level of the Engineering classification within Pike Engineering’s Professional Services team, serving the electric utility industry. The role involves providing engineering and technical expertise to address problems related to electrical distribution systems operation and maintenance, under limited supervision from senior engineers and project managers.

Summary

This position supports electric system planning, grid analytics, renewable energy and battery storage integration, and grid modernization efforts. Candidates should develop skills in electrical distribution system planning, battery energy storage, renewable generation systems, and software such as CYME, Synergi, Milsoft, PSCAD, and ETAP. The role involves developing solutions and customer deliverables, including technical reports and circuit models, to enhance the reliable and economical operation of electric distribution systems. Knowledge of industry trends like Distributed Energy Resources (DER) such as solar power and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), as well as Smart Grid technologies, is expected.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering and technical guidance in problem analysis and resolution.

Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities.

Prepare accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation.

Continuously improve engineering skills and performance.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Maintain electrical circuit models and data files.

Support company goals and represent the company professionally.

Interact with clients’ internal engineers and technical staff.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers.

Monitor project deliverables and schedules, and present solutions to clients.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited program or equivalent.

3-5 years of experience in power delivery within the electrical industry.

FE license or PE license preferred.

Ability to interpret technical documents and respond to inquiries.

Strong mathematical, reasoning, and communication skills.

Understanding of basic engineering principles and practices.

Ability to work independently and with diverse teams.

Knowledge of software tools like CYME, Synergi, Milsoft, PSCAD, ETAP, SKM.

Knowledge of DER, renewable energy, and smart grid concepts is desirable.

Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Work environment includes moderate noise levels, with accommodations as needed.
