Senior Automation Engineer Job purpose:

Under limited supervision, the Senior Automation Engineer will provide technical solutions and expertise in operations, engineering, and maintenance. The Senior Automation Engineer will manage, coordinate, and oversee technical projects, maintenance, and engineering solutions. They are responsible for planning and directing all projects with necessary vendors and in-house resources to improve performance, productivity, training and efficiencies for fairlife's plants through effective methods, controls, and strategies.

Responsibilities

Project planning: Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for fluid dairy processing projects. Define scope, identify resources, and establish milestones.

Equipment selection and procurement: Identify and select appropriate equipment for fluid dairy processing, evaluating options for capacity, efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness; coordinate with vendors and manage procurement.

Process design and optimization: Design and optimize fluid dairy processing processes; create mass balances, identify bottlenecks, improve flow, and drive continuous improvement.

Project coordination: Collaborate with safety, production, maintenance, and quality assurance to ensure smooth project execution; manage resources and resolve issues.

Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with food safety and quality regulations; work with regulatory agencies as needed.

Documentation and reporting: Maintain project documentation, design specifications, equipment manuals, stakeholder signoffs, and progress reports.

Training and support: Provide training and support to operations and maintenance teams on new equipment, processes, and technologies; develop training materials and assist with troubleshooting.

Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in processing operations and milk losses; monitor performance and implement upgrades to enhance productivity and quality.

Skills/Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in controls engineering or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Minimum of 5 years' related experience.

Aseptic/Dairy experience preferred, including UHTs, homogenizers, separators, filtration, valves, motors, and pumps.

Experience with automation software/product suites (Ignition, ControlLogix, Logix 5000, FT View, FT Historian, Canary Historian).

Experience with other platforms (Siemens, B&R, GE, Aveva/Wonderware).

Experience in automation system project delivery and major capital projects including schedule and cost management.

Ability to read engineering drawings, operating manuals, and blueprints; update P&IDs and electrical/mechanical prints (CAD/SolidWorks preferred).

Strong organizational and prioritization skills; effective communication with diverse teams.

Ability to make administrative decisions on sensitive issues; experience supervising staff.

Knowledge of quality systems and ERP applications; familiarity with USDA, state, and federal dairy regulations is a plus.

Compensation : Base pay range $120,000—$135,000 USD. Base pay offered may vary depending on geography, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A full range of medical, financial, and other benefits are offered dependent on the position.
