Electrical Designer - Level 3 for Hanwha Qcells USA Corp (Qcells USA). Department: Engineering. Location: Irvine, CA. Supervisor: Manager of Electrical Engineering. FLSA Status: Exempt. Position Status: Permanent, Full-Time. Work Status: Hybrid. The role focuses on developing and optimizing electrical designs for utility-scale solar and BESS projects." Pay information : Base pay range $120,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr. This range is provided by Qcells EPC. Advanced Electrical System Design & Optimization: Develop comprehensive electrical layouts, including grounding, power distribution, and conduit routing. Analysis & Calculations: Perform load flow analysis, voltage drop calculations, and short circuit evaluations. Electrical BOS optimization: Optimize electrical balance of system components for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Diagrams & Interconnection: Design single-line diagrams (SLDs) and electrical schematics for high-voltage interconnection. Technical & Engineering Assistance: Assist in specifying transformers, switchgear, overcurrent protection devices, and other major components. Protection & Planning: Conduct arc flash hazard assessments and protective relay coordination studies. SCADA & Controls: Develop SCADA integration plans for remote monitoring and control of PV and BESS systems. Project Coordination & Execution: Prepare technical reports, interconnection applications, and regulatory compliance documentation; work with EPC teams to address site constraints; support engineering during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. Continuous Learning & Development: Expand knowledge in power system reliability, harmonic analysis, and transient stability modeling; stay updated on codes and interconnection requirements. Required Qualifications
4+ years of experience in large-scale electrical system design, power distribution modeling, and interconnection studies. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Proficiency in large-scale electrical designs, grounding, cable routing, and interconnection systems. Software Skills: AutoCAD (Proficient); ETAP, EasyPower, or similar tools (Intermediate). Certifications: NABCEP PV Design Specialist (Optional), Electrical Design Certifications (Preferred). General Responsibilities
Regular attendance in accordance with company policy and supervisory assignments. Maintain professional relationships with clients and uphold ethics. Commit to continuous learning and participate in safety training; follow safety guidelines. Collaborate with team to develop and improve system standards; assist with technical training for team members. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and safety; perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands
Stationary position for up to 90% of the time; sitting up to 8 hours per day. Move, bend, stand, stoop, and walk as needed; occasional stairs. Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds. Frequent hearing and verbal communication; ability to exchange accurate information. Frequent visual focus on computer screens and documents. Work Environment
