Job Summary
The Transmission Line Engineer is responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line designs for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks, with a strong focus on high and medium voltage transmission projects in NYSEG service territories as part of the TLD Program. The TL Engineer will work closely with the construction and design team to develop drawings, specifications, and construction work orders to support the design, construction, and commissioning of electrical equipment.
Reporting Reports to: Manager – Projects Unit (Office: Rochester, NY)
Key Responsibilities
Lead capital project engineering performance including scoping, budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management, design, construction, and closeout.
Create new conceptual designs and oversee external detailed designers.
Perform field circuit reviews within project scope and identify proposed improvements.
Identify and conduct special projects and studies that solve complex problems with broad impact.
Oversee engineering studies to evaluate equipment and system performance and analyze operational issues to support reliability and efficiency.
Develop and validate information for engineering analyses, applying engineering judgment to ensure all designs meet applicable codes and standards.
Provide technical leadership on complex projects and mentor technical staff independently.
Collaborate across departments as a technical SME liaison, directing contractors on policy, standards, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil or electrical engineering, or Construction Engineering Management.
Minimum 3 years of total engineering experience.
Proficiency in PLS-CADD, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access, and Word. SAP and Primavera experience is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
Theoretical engineering knowledge for transmission line infrastructure, with analytical and modeling processes.
Practical engineering experience understanding constructability and economic analyses of alternatives.
Documentation and review of engineering records to ensure compliance with company standards and contract requirements.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to drive decisions and adoption of new technologies.
Technical skills: CAD Drafting, Company Procedures, Construction and Outage Sequencing, Industry Codes, PLS-CADD Modeling, Project Scoping, Estimating, Technical Writing, and Communication.
Desired technical skills: Foundation Design, Overhead Transmission Line Layout, Surveying, Transmission Equipment Specifications, Transmission Line Maintenance, Transmission Material Selection, Transmission Service Specifications, and Underground Transmission Line Design.
