With a legacy that combines the reputation of Upp Geotechnology (founded in 1983) and the innovative spark of our founders, we work on projects ranging from essential building safety to coastal bluff protection.
Responsibilities
Lead investigations of subsurface and geologic hazards, including slope stability, landslides, fault rupture, liquefaction, coastal bluff erosion, and debris flow.
Design foundations, retaining walls, earthworks, ground improvements, drainage, and other structures sensitive to soil and rock behavior.
Analyze field and laboratory data, interpret geologic history, and develop recommendations that are safe, constructable, and cost‑effective.
Support projects through design and construction phases, including plan reviews, construction observation, monitoring, and peer review to ensure field conditions align with assumptions.
Mentor junior staff, foster a collaborative team culture, and uphold the technical standards our clients expect.
Qualifications
A current California license as an Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer (or both).
Strong experience in both field and office work: investigations, mapping, lab work, report writing, and data interpretation.
Solid understanding of California’s regulatory requirements related to geologic hazards, faulting, liquefaction, and related areas.
Sound judgment, creativity, and strong communication skills to collaborate with engineers, architects, contractors, clients, and agencies.
Bonus: experience with specialized software and tools relevant to slope stability, ground improvement, rockfall simulations, or coastal bluff modeling.
