Overview Within the Manufacturing Engineering scope, Product Engineering evaluates, reports, and achieves manufacturability KPI’s by consulting with R&D on optimal product design. Success is achieved by intimate knowledge of product design, production process, and project management. The “Manufacturing Engineering Assembly Exterior” is responsible for, but not limited to, the Doors and Closures parts that will be mounted in General Assembly. You will report to the Manager, Body System Assembly at Production Planning.
Improve the product, design the vehicles according to the needs of manufacturing, and enable stable and ergonomic processes that are feasible for high volume manufacturing.
Identify, decide, and implement technical requirements from manufacturing to influence product design.
Actively work to improve daily processes and ensure all work meets customer requirements.
Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, production control, and engineering to provide product design and product concepts according to the needs of General Assembly.
Provide specialized technical assistance to team members.
Use CAD‑Data‑Analysis, Simulations, and virtual tests to identify risks for high volume manufacturing.
Identify and implement ideas to improve interior product design to ensure stable processes and minimal rework in series production.
Ensure that all interior products are designed to meet assembly requirements and that product design is feasible for high volume manufacturing.
Take responsibility for all communication between production planning assembly and engineering department as the single point of contact for all interior vehicle design related topics.
Use Cross‑Functional Team (CFT) collaboration to meet and exceed company goals and objectives in the field of design for manufacturing.
Perform Exterior Vehicle Analysis.
Perform engineering cost estimates.
Work under limited supervision; work should only be required to be reviewed for accuracy and consistency with meeting overall objectives.
Act as liaison with representatives outside of the assigned group/area.
Coordinate activities within the team that outline and achieve project goals.
Provide instruction and guidance about required techniques and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Location & Travel Expectations
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, South Carolina.
The responsibilities of this role require attendance in office with in‑person meetings and events regularly.
Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
What you’ll bring
3+ years professional experience with expertise in manufacturing engineering or production planning (General Assembly), including ability to achieve stable production processes.
Minimum 1 year experience in CAD modeling.
Deep knowledge of vehicle engineering processes.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering or equivalent required.
Skillful at organizational navigation and cross‑functional collaboration at all levels; ability to develop effective partnerships and relationships.
Creative and strategic problem solver who exercises sound judgment.

Initial base salary range = $100,000.00 – $125,000.00
