Electrician / Pier Technician – Baltimore, MD at CSX
Job Summary Perform electrical and mechanical installation and repairs on pier equipment and related systems.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with all railroad rules, safety regulations, and FRA requirements.
Diagnose and repair electrical component malfunctions.
Perform electrical and mechanical repairs to pier equipment such as lighting and heating, including both low‑voltage and high‑voltage repairs.
Install and maintain electrical wiring and equipment such as PLCs, 12 VDC to 13 000 VAC equipment, generators, switchboards, meters, lighting systems, welding machines, weighing/scale systems, HVAC units, motor control systems, and drive unit transformers.
Complete miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Pay Rate $46.16 per hour (full rate)
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
Minimum age 18.
Valid driver’s license.
Four years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment.
Experience with blueprint/schematic reading.
One year of experience interpreting schematics and diagrams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PLCs.
Experience troubleshooting and maintaining 480‑volt motor starter circuits.
Journeyman or Master Electrician credential.
Physical Requirements
Heavy work, lifting up to 70 lb occasionally and up to 100 lb rarely.
Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and climb.
Demonstrate adequate auditory and visual acuity, tracking, and inspection.
Basic Competencies
Verbal comprehension – understand oral and written communications.
Communication skills – provide clear instructions and directions.
Reasoning skills – problem solving and troubleshooting.
Basic math proficiency.
Job Requirements
Work safely to prevent job‑site accidents and injuries.
Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, or safety‑toe boots.
Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and shift work.
Complete annual training and pass safety rule examinations.
Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
Pass all required assessments, background screening, and post‑offer medical examination.
Position governed by a collective bargaining agreement; membership required.
