Staff Embedded Controls Engineer
Role at Null Automation – a stealth automotive software startup.
Responsibilities
Design and architect distributed embedded control systems for real-time automotive MCU platforms.
Develop control algorithms for connected vehicle applications interfacing with ECUs, sensors, and actuators.
Architect system-level integration strategies across the vehicle software platform.
Maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) for automotive-grade embedded MCU platforms.
Implement low‑level device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and real‑time communication interfaces.
Optimize real‑time performance: deterministic scheduling, interrupt handling, memory management.
Design safety‑critical software following ISO 26262 functional safety and ASIL requirements.
Lead vehicle integration: ECU calibration, diagnostic protocol implementation, validation in lab and test vehicle.
Develop automated testing frameworks (SIL, HIL) for embedded controls validation.
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
8–12+ years of production embedded systems experience with automotive delivery record.
3+ years as a staff engineer with significant contributions to embedded controls architecture.
Expert‑level C programming with deep real‑time constraints.
Real‑time operating systems: FreeRTOS, VxWorks, ThreadX, automotive‑specific RTOS implementations.
Deep knowledge of automotive communication protocols: CAN, LIN, FlexRay, emerging Ethernet.
Proficiency with embedded hardware interfaces: I2C, SPI, UART, PWM, ADC, automotive peripherals.
Experience with automotive laboratory equipment and diagnostic tools.
ISO 26262 functional safety and ASIL experience.
US citizenship required; no visa sponsorship.
Benefits & Compensation Salary: $250,000 – $275,000 per year.
Remote – full‑time, quarterly onsite visit (minimum one week per quarter).
Additional equity and comprehensive benefits based on geographic location.
