Overview
The Supplier Quality Engineer - WHA role at Saronic Technologies focuses on ensuring wiring harness assemblies sourced from suppliers meet quality standards and specifications. This role involves managing supplier quality performance, conducting audits and inspections, driving corrective actions, and collaborating with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality issues. The Supplier Quality Engineer supports continuous improvement initiatives, fosters strong supplier relationships, and ensures quality requirements are embedded throughout the supply chain for wiring harness assemblies. Responsibilities
Investigate supplier nonconformances (e.g., mis-crimps, insulation damage, routing errors); perform problem-solving techniques (8D/5-Why, Fishbone Diagram, FMEA) with suppliers to identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions; verify effectiveness through follow-up audits and production part checks. Validate supplier processes for crimp height, pull force, terminal fit verification, wire stripping, sealing, and over-molding; harness electrical testing (continuity, shorts, resistance, hipot); ensure compliance with Saronic workmanship standards; implement statistical process control (SPC) on key wiring parameters. Develop and implement supplier quality assurance processes and procedures; qualify and approve wiring harness suppliers through audits, capability assessments, and compliance checks; manage supplier scorecards and monitor performance (PPM, on-time delivery, quality escapes); coordinate corrective actions as needed (IATF 16949, AS9100, ISO 9001). Maintain accurate records of supplier quality performance, audits, corrective actions, and improvements; prepare and present regular reports to senior management and cross-functional teams on supplier quality metrics and trends. Collaborate with internal teams (procurement, manufacturing, engineering, logistics) to address quality concerns related to supplier components; ensure design, specifications, and supplier capabilities align with quality and production requirements; provide technical support on harness layout, connector selection, and strain relief strategies; train internal teams and suppliers on harness quality requirements. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma, Lean, and Kaizen to reduce defects and improve supply chain performance; support dual-sourcing and risk assessments for critical harness suppliers. Identify supply chain risks related to product quality or supplier performance; develop and implement risk mitigation strategies; ensure compliance with industry regulations and quality standards (ISO, TS16949, etc.). Support the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers to ensure their quality management systems meet company standards; participate in supplier selection, quality assessments, and qualification audits. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 3+ years of experience in quality engineering, supplier quality, or related roles, ideally in a manufacturing or production environment. Strong knowledge of quality standards and methodologies (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans). Experience conducting supplier audits, inspections, and quality assessments. Proficiency in root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram). Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean). Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with suppliers and internal teams. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with quality management software or ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.). Ability to travel to supplier sites as needed. Certification in quality or supplier management (e.g., CQE, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or similar). Experience in a global supply chain or with international suppliers. Knowledge of advanced product quality planning (APQP) and product lifecycle management (PLM). Experience in regulated industries (defense, automotive, aerospace, medical devices, etc.). Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional standing and walking within the office.
