Job Summary

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and plan specifications for project geotechnical design. You will oversee the field and laboratory, conduct studies, and interpret regulations. You will participate in new business efforts and proposal preparation, including identifying client needs and developing cost estimates. Your expertise will help ensure geotechnical project aspects meet project requirements. Major Responsibilities

Evaluate, select, and apply standard geotechnical engineering methods and prepare specifications for subsurface investigations for new and existing facilities. Perform and may lead geotechnical analyses such as soil and rock slope stability, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities. Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and present the results to the project team. Coordinate civil or structural engineering designs with geotechnical assessments. Communicate geotechnical issues with the project team during the engineering design stage. During construction, oversee earthwork operations, monitor pile installation and load testing, inspect critical foundation subgrade, and monitor ground improvement. Oversee outside geotechnical consultants hired by Bechtel or the client to perform these tasks. Education and Experience Requirements

Requires an M.S. degree in geotechnical engineering and 5 years of relevant work experience, or a Ph.D. degree in geotechnical engineering and 3 years of relevant work experience. Required Knowledge and Skills

Familiar with subsurface investigations, foundation design and analysis, and earthwork and slope stability, with basic understanding of construction dewatering and ground improvement. Knowledge of seismic-related issues and evaluation of liquefaction potential of soils. Familiar with geotechnical software such as Plaxis (2D/3D), FLAC, LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, GRLWEAP, CAPWAP, GINT, Settle3D, and DYNA6. Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation for drafting geotechnical drawings. Familiarity with GIS applications such as ArcGIS. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Working knowledge of U.S. codes and practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports, memos, calculations, and other technical documentation. Willingness and ability to travel to and remain at jobsites in the U.S. and overseas on short- and long-term assignments. Engineering in Training (EIT) certification. Total Rewards/Benefits
