Job Description AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Process Mechanical Water and Wastewater Engineer to join our NE Water Business Line. This project‑based position supports Wastewater/Water Treatment Plant Design, Design‑Build, and Program Management projects. You will collaborate with Project Managers and technical disciplines across all project phases—facility planning, design, procurement, construction, and close‑out—working primarily in the Boston Metro area. Field visits and on‑site coordination as a design liaison on construction projects are integral to this role.
Responsibilities
Engineering, design, and rehabilitation of process mechanical equipment, vessels, tanks, and piping systems, including specifications and procurement.
Assist with installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
Build analytic and design skills under supervision.
Conduct engineering design, evaluation, and selection of process equipment, pumping systems, pipe materials, and valves.
Produce technical reports and construction services support such as shop drawing review.
Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
Collect and analyze data, using computer software to solve basic engineering problems.
Perform work in accordance with budget and schedule, progressively working with more independence.
Propose solutions for new problems and identify discrepancies in results.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering plus 2 years of experience or equivalent.
Valid U.S. driver’s license; must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review.
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of experience designing mechanical process piping, valves, and equipment.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and REVIT.
Experience in the water/wastewater industry.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Detail‑oriented, technical yet capable of seeing the big picture.
Self‑directed professional able to work independently with minimal oversight.
Ability to meet quality, schedule, and budget expectations while multitasking and adapting to changing requirements.
