Position Overview Join a national leader in Transmission & Distribution as a Senior Underground Transmission Engineer focused on underground utility transmission projects. You’ll lead engineering teams and collaborate across departments to deliver innovative, full-scope EPC solutions that modernize the electrical grid. Key Responsibilities
Lead engineering teams of 2 to 10 on underground transmission and distribution projects.
Develop and deliver complete construction packages, including cable replacement, conduit/duct bank design, and equipment installation.
Conduct route analysis, feasibility studies, and cost estimation for complex underground projects.
Perform field inspections, measurements, and system assessments.
Utilize CADD, GIS, and simulation tools to support route mapping and system design.
Support business development, proposal preparation, cost estimation, and project scheduling.
Ensure projects meet internal QA/QC standards and client expectations.
Guide and mentor junior staff, providing leadership across design and construction phases.
Collaborate cross-functionally with construction, procurement, permitting, and leadership teams.
Contribute to thought leadership initiatives such as conferences, marketing, and strategy.
Communicate technical results through visualizations, reports, and client presentations.
Assist in the specification and calculation of electrical equipment such as cable pulling and ampacity.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master’s preferred).
Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in utility or heavy civil projects.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Successful completion of the FE or EIT certification.
Deep knowledge of underground and overhead electrical construction methods.
Strong working knowledge of electrical system equipment, power flow, and NESC standards.
Proficient in design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, CADD, and GIS.
Familiar with permitting, easements, and right-of-way procedures.
Experience with field inspections, surveying, and subsurface utility engineering.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and innovate solutions under pressure.
