2026 Future Talent Program - Translational Genome Analytics, Computational Biology - Co-op
Merck invites students to participate in the 2026 Future Talent Program, a cooperative education (Co‑op) opportunity lasting up to six months. Applicants will work on one or more computational biology projects within the Translational Genome Analytics group in the Research and Development Data, AI, and Genome Sciences (DAGS) Department.
Responsibilities
Develop interpretable AI/ML models to delineate mechanistic underpinnings of drug effects across heterogeneous tumor models.
Analyze large‑scale anti‑tumor drug and genetic perturbation screens (e.g., DepMap, PRISM, Tahoe‑100M) using state‑of‑the‑art machine learning methods to generate comprehensive associations between cellular contexts, transcriptional responses, and drug sensitivity.
Mine large‑scale internal and external datasets (RNA‑seq, single‑cell RNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq, DRUG‑seq) with state‑of‑the‑art methods to discover therapeutic targets and precision biomarkers in oncology.
In the Cambridge, MA location, analyze large‑scale Alzheimer’s disease multi‑omic datasets and fine‑tune transformer models to decode disease‑associated molecular alterations.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field. Graduate students (MS or PhD) are highly encouraged.
Available to work full‑time for six months in 2026.
Excellent academic achievement and strong data‑science abilities.
Demonstrated superior communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative team orientation.
Preferred Skills
Strong emphasis on data science, AI/ML, computational biology, and experience with large‑scale molecular profiling data analyses.
Experience with R or Python programming, biostatistics, and analysis of bulk or single‑cell datasets.
Interest or experience in oncology, immunology, or neuroscience.
Location San Francisco, CA (on site) or Cambridge, MA (on site). No relocation. No travel required.
Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $39,600.00 – $105,500.00 USD. Hybrid work model: on‑site three days per week, remote one day per week. No visa sponsorship. No relocation.
