WVU Medicine is pleased to announce a full time opening for an Advanced Practice Provider in the Emergency Department at Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV. Enjoy the team atmosphere of a 40,000 visit per year ED with support from the tertiary and academic West Virginia University Health System. Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) is a fully accredited, 203-bed acute care multispecialty medical facility serving a 10-county region in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. It offers advanced medical technologies and procedures, from state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging to minimally invasive surgery. In addition, PCH provides behavioral health services at The Behavioral Healthcare Pavilion of the Virginias, a 64-bed psychiatric hospital in Bluefield, West Virginia. Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master7s Degree in Nursing. National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers. Licensure or eligibility for licensure, as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia. American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification required. Experience: Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred. Eligible new graduates will be considered. Preferred Qualifications: ACNP or FNP considered. American Heart Association PALS certification is encouraged. Minimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Bachelor7s Degree or Master7s Degree as a Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant required. Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant training program required. Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine. American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification required.

Position Summary:

The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of emergency medicine patients, including biological, social and psychological assessments. The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient, reviews the plan of care with the clinical team, directs care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and coordinates discharge planning/follow-up. The APP participates in the education of residents and medical/nursing students and provides healthcare services consistent with state law and licensing or certification requirements where applicable.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Manages comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families; coordinates hospitalization if necessary.

Completes pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments.

Orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate in collaboration with emergency medicine faculty or established clinical guidelines.

Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests following clinical guidelines and scope of practice.

Consults and communicates with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.

Performs succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in the medical record.

Facilitates patient discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests for outpatient follow-up (as applicable).

Develops a comprehensive individualized plan of care, including teaching, discharge planning and necessary referrals.

Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuum and recognizes unstable or complex care situations.

Identifies emergency situations and initiates appropriate emergency care.

Evaluates patients and coordinates follow-up procedures and tests in ambulatory settings or on admission (as applicable).

Assists in collecting outcome measures and demonstrates critical thinking, diagnostic reasoning, and evidence-based practice.

Utilizes teaching/learning theory to educate nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients and families; promotes learning and updates knowledge regularly.

Acts as a resource for staff and provides educational programs in area of expertise.

Participates in community programs and appropriate dissemination of information.

Documents plans of care, interventions and evaluations clearly in the medical record following hospital policies.

Collaborates with leaders and staff to improve patient outcomes and lead changes in practice.

Provides leadership for committees and task forces; participates in interdisciplinary approaches to care, program development and education.

Supports innovative expansion of the emergency medicine practice in inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Documents hours and submits billing reports as appropriate.

Reviews emergency medicine data and recommends changes to improve care and efficiency; may participate in clinical trials and research studies.

Performs other duties/projects as assigned.
