Join to apply for the Leader, External Relations role at Success Academy Charter Schools. The Leader, External Relations is a senior fundraising professional reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer. This role leads the External Relations team (including Events, Stewardship/Communications, and Advancement Services) and manages a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects. The incumbent will articulate SA’s mission, build relationships with donors and volunteers, and lead efforts to steward and grow donor support. Responsibilities
Leadership, Strategy and Management: partner with the CAO and Head of Development to develop and implement plans to increase philanthropic revenue; understand SA’s scope, history, and goals; develop stewardship, communications, events, and advancement services plans aligned with fundraising goals; collaborate with cross-network teams to coordinate external relations activities; lead and manage a six-member team and foster a culture of excellence. Fundraising: manage a portfolio of donors/prospects for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship; participate in portfolio management and moves management; staff donor meetings and briefings, including CEO or executives as needed; document donor interactions in the donor management system and contribute to revenue forecasting; coordinate grassroots campaigns and appeals to meet revenue targets. Stewardship & Communications: define and execute donor stewardship plans; provide strategic direction for stewardship to senior leadership; oversee bespoke VIP communications; author and edit funding proposals, cases for support, presentations, stewardship touchpoints, newsletters, and other materials; monitor trends in donor stewardship and collaborate with teams to develop collateral and digital communications. Events: ideate and plan fundraising events and experiences; oversee events team to deliver marquee events and donor engagement experiences; manage event revenue and budgets and ensure timely revenue reporting. Advancement Services: lead Advancement Services to support fundraising efforts; be a super user of Raiser’s Edge NXT; guide data management, analysis, and reporting; manage vendor relationships and cross-functional coordination; maintain policies and controls for data handling; onboard and train Advancement staff on tools and resources. Other: travel locally/nationally as needed and be able to work after hours and on weekends as required. Qualifications
Education (Minimum Needed): Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred; CFRE or similar fundraising credential beneficial. Work Experience (Minimum Needed): at least 10 years in donor engagement/stewardship, donor communications, advancement services, and major/principal gifts; at least 5 years in management/leadership roles. Specialized Knowledge: deep experience in stewardship of major/principal gift donors; experience with high-net-worth individuals and foundations; track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding significant gifts; portfolio management experience; ability to work independently and across teams. Skills: exceptional writing and presentation skills; strong leadership and the ability to inspire teams; persuasive and communicative with diverse audiences; high emotional intelligence; strategic thinking; project prioritization and deadline management; data analysis and reporting skills; discretion with confidential information. Technical & Other Skills: proficiency with MS Office/Google Suite; familiarity with CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred); knowledge of prospect research and wealth screening tools; strong travel and availability as needed.
