INACTIVE Physician Assistant-Trauma Nocturnist

Position Purpose
This position performs the functions of examining, planning and implementing the health care of assigned patients under a licensed physician’s supervision and direction. The PA secures patient histories, performs physical examinations, orders laboratory tests, develops and implements treatment plans, performs diagnostic and treatment procedures, records findings, and provides patient education and counseling to enhance our effectiveness in providing routine therapeutic health care.
Nature and Scope Shift 7PM To 7AM
The Physician Assistant (PA) may perform the following functions:
Night PA will carry pager and evaluate trauma greens patients as directed by Trauma Physician.
Pre-specified Trauma Greens Activations to be seen by PA within 30 mins. of arrival
Transfers
Following PT. evaluation, the PA will communicate with Trauma Physician
Primary activations:
Evaluation and admission of Trauma Consult as directed by the Trauma Surgeon
Bedside procedures under the guidance and at the discretion of the Trauma Surgeon
Following Pt. evaluation PA will communicate with Trauma Physician
Attend Trauma Red and Yellow activations along with the Trauma Physician
PA to place admitting orders/completed problem list and H&P directed by Trauma Physician
Assist trauma surgeon with follow up labs and imaging studies. Including Tegs
PA to facilitate workup process of trauma pts.
Assist trauma surgeon with notification and care plan of consultants.
Communicate with ER Trauma physician concerning evaluation and disposition for trauma Pts
Provide assistance intra-op for trauma pts requiring surgery. Complete Post Op orders
Evaluation of pts in the ICU as directed by the Trauma Physician or Critical care physician.
Orders/intervention/procedures only at the approval of the Trauma Physician.
Coverage of calls from floors
Focused on pts with potential for decompensation as highlighted by the Day shift PA sign out.
Respond to appropriate floor calls in person.
Facilitate early discharge and transfer of floor patients.
Completed an ICU resuscitation note, on all new trauma admits being resuscitated
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to establish positive working relations with Provider Staff.
Work efficiently and cooperatively in a multi-physician/provider office setting.

Actively participate in quality assurance, peer review programs, and health care outcome evaluations.
Direct nursing and/or medical assistant duties consistent with clinic protocols.
Ensures the highest quality of care requiring a code of ethical practice, evidence of continuing professional development, and maintenance of clinical skills.
Patient advocate through ethical and legal standards.
Combines the roles of provider, mentor, educator, researcher, manager, and consultant, as applicable.
Interprets the role of the nurse practitioner to individuals, families, and other professionals.
Works efficiently, cooperatively, and autonomously in long-term and acute care facilities, as applicable.
The Nurse Practitioner shall at all times comply with the provisions of NRS 632 and Regulations of the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
The Collaborating physician is responsible for the action of the Nurse Practitioner at all times.
Will attain sufficient knowledge in the specialty and assure appropriate on-going education, such as knowledge of all core APHON educational programs, as applicable.
Attend and participate in departmental and Renown Health meetings consistently.
Supervision
All entries in the medical record (with the exception of the Discharge Summary) as permitted under Nature and Scope, or in the specific Appendix, must be co-signed by the supervising physician within the next calendar day. The Discharge Summary must be co-signed by the supervising physician in the time frame specified by the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
Patient rounds made by a PA shall not be considered as fulfilling requirements for Medical Staff member daily patient rounds.
The Physician Assistant must at all times comply with the provisions of Nevada Revised Statue and other regulations that set forth the practice of a Physician Assistant in the State of Nevada.
The supervising physician(s) is/are responsible for the actions of the Physician Assistant at all times.
The first 20 charts will be reviewed by the Department Chief or his designee for compliance with this Scope of Practice, hospital policies and the community standard of care.
This position does provide patient care.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program is required. Baccalaureate Degree is preferred. PA will have or complete first assist certificate training within the first year of employment.
Experience Two years’ experience as physician assistant.
License(s) Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Physician’s Assistant license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada Required, and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA. Must be credentialed through medical staff, if applicable.
Certification(s) Board Certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required at time of hire
OR
maintenance of the NCCPA Board Certification shall align with the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners’ requirements for an active/unrestricted State of Nevada Physician's Assistant license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) AND Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.
Computer / Typing Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
