Job Description
Located in Templeton amongst the oak trees, Adventist Health Twin Cities has been serving northern San Luis Obispo County since 1977. Comprised of a 122-bed acute care facility, our team provides exceptional care in emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, digestive disorders, wound care and various medical, surgical and outpatient services. Job Summary
Serves as technical consultant and direct supervisor of laboratory personnel and manages the performance of all laboratory testing. Develops and maintains policies, standards and quality control practices and oversees lab safety and maintenance. Serves as a resource medical technologist in assigned section and has the responsibility/authority to assure that the laboratory meets all accreditation requirements and applicable OSHA standards.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences or allied health technologies or equivalent (Required)
Five years' clinical laboratory experience (Preferred)
Two years' leadership experience (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license in state of employment: Required in CA
Current certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA): Preferred
Essential Functions
Oversees all laboratory testing and coordinates all point of care testing (POCT). Reviews and evaluates the validity and accuracy of test results. Functions as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist when needed. Identifies education and competency needs and conducts laboratory personnel training programs on instrumentation, technology and procedure as needed.
Establishes the laboratory’s test performance characteristics, including precision, accuracy, reference ranges and reportable ranges. Evaluates new and evolving developments in laboratory instrumentation, procedures, reagents and automation for possible implementation.
Coordinates equipment and instrumentation maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration program to ensure proper working order. Oversees quality control and ensures compliance with rules, regulations and accreditation requirements of regulatory agencies, including CLIA, FDA, CAP, JC, AABB and OSHA.
Manages staffing to ensure coverage. Recommends promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance and personnel needs. Plans and conducts training programs for medical technicians and medical technologist students and new employees.
Oversees quality control, quality assurance and preventive maintenance activities for the assigned section. Manages and maintains all sectional quality control records. Previews and ensures technological and scientific accuracy of QA tests and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
