Location: Facility in Decatur, GA Job type: Travel assignment, 13 weeks Company: Fusion Medical Staffing Role: Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) RN Qualifications
Required One year of recent experience as a PACU RN Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification Preferred PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certifications Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position Summary
The PACU RN provides specialized care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery. This role involves assessing patient recovery, implementing post-operative care plans, administering treatments, collaborating with the surgical team, and coordinating discharge or transport as needed. The PACU RN ensures patient safety and comfort during the recovery period, using advanced clinical skills, effective communication, and adherence to professional and regulatory standards. Essential Work Functions
Receive and conduct comprehensive assessments of patients transferring from the operating room and assess post-anesthesia condition Monitor and evaluate vital signs, level of consciousness, and recovery from anesthesia Administer prescribed medications and treatments per post-anesthesia nursing techniques Document patient conditions, treatments, and significant incidents; notify the care team of changes Respond to emergencies using PACU standards, policies, and procedures Document assessments and recovery progress in medical records Educate patients and families; provide discharge instructions and recovery guidelines Collaborate with the surgical team and other providers for comprehensive post-operative care Participate in patient handoffs to ensure continuity of care between OR, PACU, and post-PACU units Operate and monitor PACU equipment (ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps) Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal skills English language proficiency in reading, writing, and communication Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions; PC skills Physical ability to move and assist with equipment (50-100 lbs); bending, pushing, pulling Professional demeanor when collaborating with a variety of personnel Technical/motor skills for handling equipment and procedures Mental agility to cope with high-pressure environments and varying schedules Sensory abilities including visual acuity and effective communication Benefits Include
