Summary

Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Psychologist at Wilmington VA Medical Center is assigned to the Psychology Service within Primary Care. The PCMHI program is an outpatient multidisciplinary service that provides brief recovery‑oriented services for Veterans and functions within a fast‑paced primary care team. The incumbent delivers brief, consultation‑based services to Veterans within that setting. Responsibilities

Provide immediate direct and on‑site access for behavioral health consultation assessment. Work in conjunction with other PCMHI team members to support PCMHI. Provide input, updates and/or recommendations regarding behavioral health needs of Veterans. Conduct initial and comprehensive psychosocial assessments of Veterans referred by primary care providers. Review subjective and objective data, assess high risk factors, provide clinical assessment, and determine the treatment plan for Veterans. Administer and score psychological tests and cognitive screenings to support treatment planning. Evaluate Veterans in terms of the need for psychotherapy and the probability of psychotherapy being effective. Determine psychological diagnosis and prognosis, assess risk factors, and develop a preliminary disposition plan which involves the Veteran and his/her family. Provide a full range of brief, solution‑focused therapeutic interventions to primary care patients not currently established with a mental health provider. Such interventions include cognitive and behavioral therapy and other evidence‑based modalities through group and individual formats. Actively participate and contribute to assigned PACT treatment plan meetings. Present informed reports and educate interdisciplinary teams on the use of newly proven or evidence‑based interventions. May be involved in Psychology Training Program and Training Committee and in the training of graduate trainees, as appropriate. Prepare and teach seminars/workshops for WVAMC trainees/staff on topics within interest/competency areas. Additional duties as assigned. Requirements & Qualifications

U.S. citizenship. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre‑employment requirements. Must pass pre‑employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 or 2‑year trial period during which we will evaluate your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements

United States citizenship. Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully complete a re‑specialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the re‑specialization program) meeting both of the following conditions: (a) the re‑specialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; (b) the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. Internships: Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Preferred Experience

Two or more years of clinical experience comparable to what one would get in a VA setting, either by post‑doctoral employment or two years of employment as a psychologist. Physical Requirements

Light to moderate lifting, up to 44 pounds; light carrying, under 15 pounds. Reaching above shoulder, use of both hands and fingers required. Walking/standing 6‑8 hours; both legs required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; both eyes required; depth perception required. Ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; ability to work alone. Work Schedule
