The Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) acts as a provider of anatomic pathology services with specialized knowledge in describing, dissecting, and submitting samples of human surgical and autopsy specimens for review and diagnosis by a pathologist. The PA-Academic serves as the main resource for pathology residents’ training in the grossing laboratory and autopsy suite, and supports faculty and staff pathologists in diagnostic roles. Responsibilities

Educate pathology residents in the grossing laboratory, autopsy suite, and other areas as required Maintain specimen identification integrity at all times Perform gross examination and dictation of surgical and autopsy specimens Maintain instrumentation in all areas of anatomic pathology Assist in organization and coordination of operations in surgical and autopsy pathology Maintain accreditation standard requirements in all areas of anatomic pathology Collect and maintain data for the department and report on quality performance for anatomic pathology May perform administrative and clerical duties as needed Work with alertness and in a safe manner Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications

Master’s degree in Science from NAACLS-accredited program ASCP certification required within 6 months of hire No experience required Physical & Work Requirements

Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects 0-25 lbs; occasionally 25-50 lbs Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching; repetitive movements Visual and depth perception requirements; color discernment Hearing and speech for communication; alarm and machinery awareness Frequent keyboard use; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting Occasional climbing Licenses & Certifications

ASCP Pathologists’ Assistant certification within 6 months; State licensure as required Schedule & Employment
