Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives. Job Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Customer service leadership: Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience, including interpersonal habits that show care and Walgreens service traits. Patient relationships: Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services; leads efforts to enhance patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and wellness services). Community presence: Participates in events reflecting the communities served as requested by leadership. Operations: Counsels patients on usage, side effects, interactions, privacy, generics, cost considerations, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed to ensure correct medication use and satisfaction. Pharmacy tasks: Performs compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications per regulations and policies. Compliance and workflow: Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations and standards. Establishes procedures for efficient workflow, staff scheduling, role assignment, and shift changes. Good Faith Dispensing: Ensures use of Good Faith Dispensing elements in line with state and federal controlled substance laws. Strategic partnership: Collaborates with Store Manager to identify and develop new business opportunities. Technology and training: Maintains IT knowledge of pharmacy systems and supports staff and patients with technology; identifies opportunities to improve productivity. Insurance and audits: Ensures insurance claims are processed accurately and resolves issues with insurers and providers; participates in third-party audits as needed. Clinical coordination: Follows up with providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and disease state management. Community and virtual care: Partners with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conducts virtual product reviews following company procedures. Facilities and records: Maintains pharmacy department facilities and documentation required by law to operate the business. People & Performance Management: Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, termination, and ensures employment-law compliance. Performance and culture: Supports goal setting, rewards, and formal performance reviews; identifies high-potential staff and manages career progression; addresses employee relations concerns. Training & Development: Maintains required licensing and certifications; pursues ongoing professional development and completes required training and education credits. Communication: Shares relevant health and wellness strategies with pharmacy staff. Business and community planning: Analyzes performance data, manages inventory and assets, and develops relationships with local medical providers to promote growth. Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws. Internal candidates: average leadership rating of at least 3.0 on the last performance review, with no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months. About Walgreens
