Autonomously performs complex diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures for patients of all ages, under the supervision of qualified physicians for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Diagnostic sonographers confirm imaging orders for completeness and accuracy, review patient history and clinical data for medical necessity, and contact physicians if necessary. They utilize advanced knowledge to perform diagnostic procedures in inpatient and outpatient settings, producing, assessing, and evaluating ultrasound images and data. Sonographers exercise independent judgment in interpreting exams and provide preliminary diagnoses to physicians. Responsibilities Perform diagnostic ultrasounds to image normal and abnormal structures, providing quality care to patients of all ages. Assess patients appropriately before, during, and after procedures according to departmental guidelines. Assist in training students and staff as assigned. Create a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families. Prepare patients, collect relevant information, and perform sonographic exams following protocols. Monitor patient conditions during procedures and notify physicians of any unusual occurrences. Compile records to expedite results and analyze image quality. Complete data sheets with patient information prior to forwarding to radiologists or cardiologists. Explain procedures using AIDET process, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Follow department-specific standards and infection control procedures. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education:
Associate Degree or Certification in Ultrasonography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or Radiology from an accredited program. ARDMS registered or registry eligible in abdomen, OB/GYN, vascular technology (RVT), or Cardiac echo (RDCS). Registry eligible candidates must become ARDMS or registered in abdomen within 6 months or in adult echo or vascular within 1 year. Required Certifications:
Certified as RDMS, RDCS, RVS, or RCS by ARDMS or CCI within 1 year of employment. CPR certification from AHA or Red Cross. Seniority level
