Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks a Post Doctoral Associate in NJMS-Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics. The lab focuses on characterizing ER-shaping proteins of Plasmodium, their roles in cell biology, and their impact on parasite virulence. The role involves developing inhibitors of parasite kinases as malaria prophylactics using molecular genetics (gene knockouts, CRISPR editing), microscopy, proteomics, protein expression, enzyme assays, and parasite growth studies.
Key duties include:
Conduct scientific research including protein purification, biochemistry, enzymatic assays, tissue culture, cell biology, microscopy, molecular biology, rodent handling, and mosquito dissection under the PI's guidance.
Communicate regularly with the PI.
Maintain detailed experimental records.
Participate and present at journal clubs, seminars, and conferences.
Review current scientific literature relevant to the lab's mission.
Adhere to Rutgers compliance standards as outlined in RBHS policies.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Ph.D. in a related field with peer-reviewed publications, strong training in molecular biology, protein purification, and biochemistry.
Strong work ethic, communication, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
Preference for candidates with animal-handling experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing. No special vision requirements. Must lift up to 10 pounds. Work environment includes clinical, office, and laboratory settings with moderate noise.
