CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR ASSISTANT (CLASS CODE 4418)

Under close supervision, performs construction inspection in conjunction with public works construction projects to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, applicable codes and safety regulations and monitor daily construction activities and overall progress. Engineering construction inspection includes but is not limited to the following activities: earthwork and paving, roadway renovation and improvement, water supply and sewer collection pipeline, concrete, protective coating, pile driving, drilled pier, track improvements, power distribution and transmission systems, electrical overhead contact systems, streetlights, traffic signals, roadway striping, signal, control and data acquisition systems, radio and telecommunications systems, including fiber optic networks, power substations, ADA retrofits and facilities, building renovation and improvements, operating equipment, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, electrical and mechanical work, and landscaping and irrigation work; and related work as required.
A High School Diploma or G.E.D. issued by a state Department of Education.
EITHER:
Two (2) years (60 semester hours) of university training from an accredited college or university, 24 semester hours of which must have been in an architecture, engineering, or construction technology curriculum.
OR:
Two (2) years of full-time experience in architecture, engineering or building construction involving inspection, designing, grading or building. Additional experience may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification. A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
