WSP in the U.S. This position will sit out of our
Atlanta, GA
office. The WSP Atlanta office serves clients from around the state on a wide variety of projects including turn lanes and widening, roundabouts, intersection improvements, and bridge replacements to urban interchanges and large design-build projects. The selected candidate will work on GDOT projects on a regular basis, so experience with GDOT projects is beneficial. This opportunity is to continue to enhance design and production skills and build relationships within WSP as well as with a large number of clients around the state. Responsibilities
Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other data for project development, design, and construction. Perform professional civil engineering work and assist with research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, and infrastructure to determine conformance with applicable rules and permits. Participate in incorporating advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality for end-users and transportation systems. Work individually or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work, lay out installations, establish reference points/elevations/grades, calculate costs and quantities, and ensure conformance with specifications and permits. Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues. Research databases regarding historical property land uses. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for interpretation of data and findings. Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements, analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects. Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations to address design and construction issues. Conduct engineering studies and surveys to inform design and future needs. Assist in data analysis and interpretation from field investigations and support action planning for risk mitigation. Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Collaborate with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies and exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience). 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience. Engineer in Training Certification. Experience with design teams on GDOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and drainage design). Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and permitting-related issues. Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design. Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements. Knowledge of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas. Knowledge of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences. Self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks, follow instructions, work independently, and comply with company policies. Moderate proficiency with technical writing, software, mathematics, and analytical tools. Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS). Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to data and analyses. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as project needs require. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering. Essential Professional Licensure/Certification. 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred. Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired. About WSP
