Position Overview Under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager, the Safety Representative provides technical and compliance expertise to the field employees in terms of good safety habits and provide direction and skills for a safe work environment. This position works closely with field supervision and personnel to achieve goals and support the safety of each of the company’s business units. Key Responsibilities Assists with audits of plant facilities regulated under OSHA, General Industry and Construction Standards. Investigate all incidents for root-cause development to ensure unsafe conditions/behavior is not repeated. Participate on safety committee meetings and provide insight and resources on matters relating to committee safety concerns and corrective solutions. Reinforce policies and procedures that support the company’s goals, the operations needs and achievement of safety results. Conduct employee training certifications, classroom training, and practical hands-on training. Conduct job site safety inspections including specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies. Assist in conducting weekly toolbox talks and monthly safety training. Assist with plant and roadway incident investigations and document all accidents, safety violations, injuries, and unsafe conditions/activities to find root cause and make recommendations for improvement. Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators, clothing, and other PPE. Provide health and safety support to Safety Manager. Assist in Safety Mentor program for new employees. Other duties as assigned by the Safety Manager. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. At least 1 – 2 years of constructions and/or industrial safety experience Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and Company regulations. Work Requirements Must have a valid, state issued driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a TWIC card and all ISTC Certifications required to successfully carry out the duties of the position. Knowledge/Skill Requirements Bilingual preferred (Spanish) Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measures. Solid training/teaching experience High ethical standards Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) Must be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal. Physical Requirements Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person. Able to utilize a computer and I-PAD for word processing, e-mail communication, and preparation of documents and presentations Knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, Powerpoint and Outlook Intermittent climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling are required Periodic, but extensive walking and standing required.
