About the Role As a
System Safety / MBSE Engineer
supporting our client’s defense vehicle systems programs, you will collaborate with design teams to integrate system safety principles into hardware and software architectures. You will be responsible for hazard analysis, safety requirement management, and development of safety work products throughout the program lifecycle, ensuring vehicle compliance with customer and contractual safety requirements.
Responsibilities
Evaluate customer requirements for System Safety and determine compliance for vehicle systems
Create and support the design of system and software architectures with safety integration
Conduct system safety analyses and provide recommendations for design solutions and changes
Document analysis reports and support system specification development
Manage safety requirements definition, traceability, connectivity, and validation
Create hazard tracking systems (HTS) and hazard analyses (PHA, FHA) as required
Develop and complete safety CDRLs and submit to the customer
Manage end-to-end traceability of hazard mitigations across assigned systems
Create and manage hazard logs, risk registers, human/system interface databases, and hazard tracking
Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to identify hazards and mitigation strategies
Conduct peer reviews of safety work products prior to release
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or another safety-related engineering discipline
7+ years of relevant experience (fewer years considered with an advanced degree)
Experience in developing hazard analyses, safety concepts, safety cases, and hazard mitigation strategies
Experience in safety requirement traceability and safety-critical test cases
Familiarity with standards such as MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, ISO 26262, ARP-4761A
Experience developing safety requirements using MBSE methodologies (CAMEO or similar tools)
Proficiency with requirement management tools such as Team Center, JIRA, Confluence, DOORS
Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills
Ability to work collaboratively with hardware and software engineers to implement mitigation strategies
Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
Must meet anthropometric size requirements for confined space access
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend overtime as required
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a System Safety-related engineering discipline
Experience applying System, Logical, and Physical architecture to develop safety strategies and mitigations
Defense industry experience preferred; relevant automotive/aerospace system safety experience acceptable
Experience with high voltage systems and autonomous software/embedded systems
Human factors/ergonomics and user-centered design experience in system safety
Knowledge of functional failure analysis, AGILE methodology, and system engineering V-model
