Overview

Honest Broker Translational Pathology Research role focused on serving as a firewall between patient data and requestors to support clinical research using de-identified patient information, in compliance with IRB, HIPAA, HHS/OHRP standards and policies. This spoke-level Honest Broker will translate faculty requirements into executable data queries and perform database-centric tasks such as data mining, aggregation, wrangling, and trend analysis. Basic statistical methods may be used to fulfill health research customer requirements. Functional knowledge of database query standards, reproducible programming, and essential statistical tools is expected under best practices for protected health information in a clinical research environment. The Ideal Candidate

Masters degree in a related field and 3–7 years of direct data-mining experience focusing on oncology research, including patient data management. Experience with data query, reporting, and visualization tools (R Markdown, Shiny, SQL, Python, SAS) or enterprise BI applications (QlikView, Tableau, Power BI). Experience with electronic data capture/workflow software (REDCap) for designing clinical and translational research databases. Git-based version control; cloud data workflows (AWS or Snowflake) experience is preferred. Basic to advanced statistical and bioinformatic tooling knowledge relevant to downstream research requirements. Responsibilities

Execute requests for aggregated, abstracted, limited, and PHI-masked datasets from internal and external sources, adhering to HIPAA, IRB, and internal policies. Determine the scope of regulatory approvals required to authorize data access and verify approvals before data provision. Complete the comprehensive research-specific Honest Broker Training Program. Report to the Department of Pathology administratively and be accountable to the Collaborative Data Services Core (CDSC) for compliant activities and SOP adherence. Perform data mining, aggregation, wrangling, and trend analysis; analyze data with basic statistical methods as needed. Possess functional knowledge of database query standards, reproducible programming, and essential statistical tools for protected health information. Collaborate with faculty pathologists to translate business requirements into executable data queries. Credentials and Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Health Sciences, Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, or related field, with at least three (3) years of related experience in querying/tidying/summarizing research data in a hospital or healthcare environment. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an additional 4 years of recent experience as a data analyst/abstractor may be considered (total of seven years). Proficiency in SQL/R/Python or similar programming. Ability to collate/review data for submission monitoring, outliers, error processing, and validation. Data management knowledge for large data sets, including basic biostatistics for data analysis and representation. Proficiency with MS Office; basic web-design knowledge (HTML/CSS) or similar to present data. Strong time management and the ability to handle multiple projects; ability to identify barriers affecting deadlines or proposals, especially in data science workflows.
