Overview The post holder is designated to manage the Respiratory ward, ensuring provision of safe, high quality and individualised care to patients and the line management and development of the ward staff. The post holder will participate in achieving the Ward’s objectives through innovative and progressive approaches to patient care, be responsible for adherence to Nursing Care Audit and Care Accreditation processes, and be responsible for the development of clinical audit and research activities and for developing the ward as a learning environment.
Responsibilities
Management: Line management and supervision of all grades of staff within the sphere of authority, workload allocation, and reporting deficiencies to the Ward Leader; planning staff duty rotas; supporting staff in patient care; managing bed usage and coordinating with the bed management team.
Multidisciplinary Liaison: Liaison with all disciplines and departments interfacing with care delivery; promote good working relationships within the multidisciplinary team.
Communications: Develop and maintain effective communication systems with medical, paramedical and support services staff, patients, relatives and carers.
Clinical Governance: Maintain standards of care, support clinical governance initiatives, ensure patient-centred care, minimise clinical risk, and support incident reporting and investigations.
Education & Training: Participate in personal development, mentor and advise students and staff, and foster a learning environment; identify learning needs and plan development for unit staff.
Research & Audit: Support development of multidisciplinary clinical audits, assist with application and evaluation of current research findings, and encourage audit projects at unit level.
Personal Performance: Engage in ongoing skill development and participate in the Trust’s appraisal process; maintain confidentiality for patients, staff and the Trust.
