Job Summary Works under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist and performs responsibilities associated with the localization of tumors and the administration of radiation therapy. Possess knowledge in principles, practices and procedures involved with the operation of ionizing radiographic and radiation therapy equipment. Knowledge of human anatomy and proper patient positioning to provide radiation therapy treatment. Able to perform CT Simulations in accordance with the instructions of the radiation oncologist. Responsible for patient safety protocols and adherence to departmental policies and procedures. Participates in the department\'s performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Maintains patient workflow and resolves treatment issues. Demonstrates excellent technical and communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with staff, patients and families. Upholds NYS licensure, registration in Radiologic Technology, ARRT and BLS certification.
Core Job Responsibilities
Deliver radiation therapy and administer prescribed dose under the direction of a radiation oncologist, in accordance with regulatory standards and hospital policies, practices and procedures.
Position patients for radiation therapy treatments with accuracy; utilize image guidance.
Simulate patients under the guidance of the radiation oncologist and create custom immobilization devices.
Perform daily quality assurance checks on linear accelerators and CT/simulation.
Verify that all treatment information and quality assurance checks regarding the proposed treatment plan are correct before the start of radiation.
Train and supervise students during clinical rotations or shadow programs; orient new radiation therapists and act as a mentor.
Work as a consistent team member with patient care as the priority; rotate as needed to maintain efficiency; collaborate with other radiation therapists.
Communicate effectively with the Radiation Oncologist, Dosimetrist, Physicist and support team.
Adhere to punch in/punch out policy; PEAR reports for missed punches are signed by supervisor before the end of the pay period.
Identify the patient in ARIA and accurately deliver treatment to the correct patient and treatment area according to policy.
Maintain patient confidentiality and protect operations by keeping information confidential.
Education/Experience Requirements Required:
Graduate from an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Radiation; AAS degree in Radiation Therapy also accepted.
Licensure/Certification Requirements Required:
Current NYS Licensure/registration in Radiologic Technology Radiation Therapy.
Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification.
