Under general supervision, perform routine and highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures on members following established parameters/protocols for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Assist in maintaining a smooth operational flow and maximum member volume. The cardiovascular-interventional technologist assumes many roles within an interventional procedure: scrub in and assist the physician, circulate in the procedure room, procure equipment, position the member, set radiation exposure parameters, and image the member. Maintain a high degree of accuracy and awareness of all radiation and member safety issues involved with invasive procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies and equipment operation. Recognize and resolve equipment operations and problems; anticipate member needs and determine appropriate care. Use professional judgment and critical thinking when performing procedures. Essential Responsibilities

Comply with Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Ensure patient safety in preparation and provisioning of care (medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention), including two patient identifiers and procedural time outs. Report safety hazards, accidents, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly. Operate angiography equipment and apply ionizing radiation according to standard operating procedures and departmental policies. Position and assist members onto the table; provide comfort during procedures. Perform angiography and digital subtraction angiography procedures using image-guided and sterile techniques. Operate laser imagers and radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment to obtain radiographic images; critique radiographs for quality and accuracy; select and file images for permanent record. Provide radiation protection and select accurate technical factors on an individual member basis. Review history and pertinent films with Interventional Radiologist or Cardio-Vascular Surgeon to plan the procedure; discuss necessary equipment. Assist physicians with specialized diagnostic and interventional procedures; handle equipment, prepare procedure trays, prep and explain procedures to members; may insert PICCs with certification and training. Set up and maintain a sterile field; open sterile trays as applicable. Monitor member condition with RNs and Interventional Radiologist/Cardio-Vascular Surgeons; use EKG, IV pumps, BP monitors, pulse oximeter, and related equipment. Prepare radiopaque materials for administration; open and manage contrast materials; assist with administration by setting volume and flow rates. Clean and disinfect angiography equipment and procedure room; troubleshoot technical problems. Record member data in health records with appropriate ICD-9/CPT codes as applicable. Review and prioritize requests for interventional procedures to ensure smooth workflow. Communicate effectively with members, nurses, and physicians regarding angiography procedures and preparation. Assist in developing and modifying angiography/interventional practices with the Interventional Radiologist or Cardio-Vascular Surgeon. Handle telephone inquiries regarding physician and/or member information related to angiography; perform miscellaneous clerical tasks as needed. Assist in maintaining inventory. Other duties as assigned. Experience

One (1) year of recent, dedicated experience with interventional radiological procedures required. Education

High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of a Radiologic Technology training program approved by the American Medical Association. License, Certification, Registration

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Vascular Interventional Radiography (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists). Basic Life Support Additional Requirements

May require heavy lifting (50-100 pounds occasionally; 25-50 pounds frequently; 10-20 pounds constantly). Physical demands may be above medium work. Ability to wear 10-15 pound lead aprons. Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to meet Kaiser Permanente customer needs. Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Vascular-Interventional Radiography preferred.
