Overview
Local Autonomy & Controls Engineer II – New Glenn at Blue Origin. This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. You will contribute to the development of safety-critical controls software for the New Glenn launch vehicle, collaborating with flight hardware and participating in tests at Processor-In-the-Loop (PIL), Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL), and subsystem levels. Your work will support integrated launch vehicle test campaigns, develop and verify subsystem requirements, and engage in plant model validation activities. Responsibilities
Develop and verify safety-critical controls software for the New Glenn launch vehicle. Collaborate closely with flight hardware and participate in PIL, HIL, and subsystem tests. Support integrated launch vehicle test campaigns and validate subsystem requirements. Engage in plant model validation activities. Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Aerospace, or related field). Experience in aerospace, controls-related, or hardware test roles. Experience with Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulation and testing. Experience with AI-assisted software development cycles. Highly organized with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
Advanced graduate degree in engineering or related control systems field. Experience with Simulink model-based design software. Experience with real-time operating systems and Linux. Hands-on usage of AI coding assistants (e.g., Roo, Klein, Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate embedded/controls development, code reviews, and test creation. Familiarity with DOORS Next Generation (DNG) or similar requirements management systems; Atlassian JIRA or similar issue tracking; Apache Subversion or GitLab or similar revision control systems. Compensation Range: WA applicants is $121,323.00-$169,852.20. Other site ranges may differ. Culture & Inclusion
