Manufacturing Engineer, Joining role at Tesla What To Expect
Tesla Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering is looking for a highly motivated joining engineer to create, develop and scale up joining processes for new programs. This role requires working closely with Design Engineering to take joining process designs and implement design changes. It also requires working closely with cross‑functional teams, including internal and external partners, to develop new joining setups, conduct equipment validation and launch the line from initial concept through prototype development and into full production. What You’ll Do
Collaborate closely with Structures Design Engineering and CAE Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in future programs early in the design phase Design, develop, commission and ramp automated joining equipment, testing, validating, and rolling out process and product design changes Plan and execute DoEs to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for joining manufacturability and quality Drive cell reviews of process design, fixture design, simulations, cycle time plan, line layout, equipment maintenance strategy and optimize towards high‑speed limits Lead equipment installation, commissioning and ramp of high‑volume production lines during launch, collaborating with Tesla’s partner vendors to deliver the line in the shortest possible time and within project budgets Take direct responsibility for achieving joining quality targets and lead all activities towards this objective, including development of quality control plans, PFMEA and dimensional improvement plans Collect and prepare the final documentation handover package to ensure long‑term sustainability and optimization of new production lines What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience Experience developing and launching welding and mechanical joining processes in automotive or electronics industries In‑depth understanding of welding, mechanical joining processes, equipment and metallurgy Ability to function independently, be a strong collaborator in a team, detail oriented, organized, hands‑on and able to make strong decisions Remain engaged, initiative‑taking, positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for success Extensive proficiency creating written and pictorial documentation of manufacturing processes Collect, analyze, and summarize information to a general understanding, thinking abstractly and separating complex ideas into simple elements Mastery of Excel, Word and PowerPoint, experienced with AUTOCAD, CATIA 3DX and other similar software/tools Benefits
