Salary Annual: $58,726.74 – $75,999.31 Biweekly: $2,591.37 (with CAD additive of $18.40)

What You Will Do FDOT’s Professional Engineer (P.E.) Training Program offers a 4‑year rotation through major disciplines—including Planning, Traffic Operations, Structures, Design, Construction, and Maintenance—to develop broad, practical expertise and lead to licensure as a P.E. in Florida.

Your Specific Responsibilities

Maintenance Phase: Perform technical engineering tasks of gradually increasing complexity in Field Operations, Warehouse, Repair Shops, and Maintenance Systems.

Construction Phase: Administer technical engineering and construction contracts of gradually increasing complexity in Roadway, Drainage, Traffic Control Devices, and Structures.

Design Phase: Engineer roadway, drainage, and traffic projects of increasing complexity, including sample projects.

Traffic Operations Phase: Engineer signing pavement marking, operations analysis, signalization, and highway safety.

Survey & Mapping Phase: Engineer surveys of base line control, design survey, and right‑of‑way survey.

Planning and Environmental Management Phase: Receive instruction and engineer tasks in transportation statistics, multi‑modal transportation planning, FDOT five‑year plan, project evaluation, system planning, impact research, contamination assessment, mitigation, permitting, and compliance.

Materials Phase: Engineer structural materials research, field operations certification, bituminous materials research, pavement evaluation, soil materials research, aggregate control, and chemical materials corrosion research.

Right of Way Phase: Engineer drafting, legal description, and right‑of‑way computations.

Structures Phase: Draft bridge design, retaining walls, sign structures, box culverts, traffic signal structures, plan reviews, and shop drawing reviews.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Transportation engineering concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques.

Proficiency in computer use.

Problem‑solving related to engineering.

Planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments and projects.

Effective communication.

Establishing effective working relationships with others.

Required Education & Licensure

Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university or equivalently accredited program (degree within 4 months of program entry).

Fundamentals of Engineering examination registration or equivalent exam registration prior to appointment.

U.S. citizenship or lawfully authorized alien worker.
