Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is seeking an Entry Level Bridge Engineer to join our Richmond Office.
Overview Moffatt & Nichol is a leading U.S.-based global infrastructure advisor specializing in planning and design of facilities that shape coastlines, harbors and rivers, as well as an innovator in transportation. The firm provides clients worldwide with customized service in ports and harbors; coastal, environmental and water resources; urban waterfronts and marinas; transportation, bridges and rail; inspection and rehabilitation; and energy.
Responsibilities
Utilize structural analysis software for design, such as Leap Bridge Concrete, Leap Bridge Steel, Open Bridge Modeler, STAAD, SAP2000, etc.
Complete design tasks with supervision and learn to work independently
Coordinate the structural design with other disciplines and construction team
Become familiar with various structural standards and building codes such as AASHTO, AREMA, and UPRR/BNSF guidelines
Compile data and perform calculations required for the preparation of drawings and design studies
Prepare cost estimates
Prepare construction documents
Collaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and all company disciplines
Conduct bridge inspections and assist in supervision of site investigations as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred
0 to 2 years of experience
EIT certification preferred
Intern experience preferred
Experience with VDOT projects desirable
Experience with MicroStation and/or Open Bridge Modeler desirable
Experience with STAAD, SAP2000, or similar a plus
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
Availability and willingness to travel
All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment background check
