Overview
Construction Inspector position at Harris County Flood Control District. The District’s mission is to mitigate flood risk in Harris County, including the City of Houston. The District maintains approximately 1,500 channels, nearly 2,500 miles of channels, over 60 regional stormwater detention basins, and wetlands facilities such as Greens Bayou. What you will do
The District is seeking qualified candidates for the Construction Inspector role. You will observe, inspect, and document work-in-progress on construction sites to ensure work is performed in accordance with sealed and approved construction plans, sound construction practices, and applicable permitting and approvals. Inspections include site clearing, grading, excavation, backfilling, and installation of reinforced concrete structures (e.g., box culverts, low flow sections, slope pavement, inlets, manholes, street sections). Essential Functions and Duties
Perform daily inspections of construction sites and work to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with sealed and approved plans, adhere to good construction practices, and comply with local, state, and federal permits. Coordinate with contractor representatives on work scheduling, interpretation of plans and specifications, and acceptability of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with sealed plan requirements. Inspect materials on construction sites to ensure compliance with technical specifications and drawings; schedule independent material testing and engineering support for quality assurance. Report reject materials and deficiencies in construction methods. Document, photograph, and maintain daily reports summarizing progress, scheduling, workmanship, and material/method deficiencies. Collect and review documentation for payment of work performed (delivery tickets, invoices, product labels, sketches, calculations, and related records showing approved materials/products used). Prepare for and communicate substantial completion and final walk-throughs; address questions and finalize completion punch list with the assigned contractor. Perform other duties as directed or amended by the course and scope of the job. Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or G.E.D. from an accredited institution Experience
Experience in construction inspection or a related field; construction experience and/or education may qualify for a higher position with equivalent pay Licensure
Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments Good organizational skills Knowledge of construction standards, practices, and techniques Knowledge of bayou, drainage area, and rights-of-way maintenance Notes
