Solar Construction Manager, North America Construction Portfolios
Amazon, Austin, Texas, us, 78716
Description
Amazon is looking for a Construction Manager to lead the design, construction, and activation of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, micro‑grid energy resiliency solutions, and other innovative programs that support Amazon sustainability and our progress toward Climate Pledge goals. The role will manage project delivery from site selection and contract execution through operational turnover, including new builds, retrofits, expansion, and program initiatives. Responsibilities include detailed deep‑dive reviews of job budgets and schedules, resolving discrepancies, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to earn trust and deliver results. The Construction Manager serves as Amazon’s representative and primary integrator for construction activities, coordinating with developers, general contractors, utility providers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of PV and sustainability projects. The role requires 60% regional travel and the ability to work from a corporate office when not traveling, and relocation assistance may be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Manage construction project delivery of new rooftop PV systems and other renewable energy/sustainability projects, including activation and integration into local grids and Amazon operations. Provide advisory on impacts of schedule, cost, and permitting changes. Support scope review, engineering design, and construction planning with internal technical teams and operational customers. Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, from small renovations to large ($100M+) new facilities. Work independently with minimal direction from leadership. Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements and equipment needs for expansion and remodel projects. Provide technical direction for engineering design, AutoCAD, building design, layouts, and build details following North American Customer Fulfillment (NACF) parameters. Conduct facility surveys, develop audit procedures, evaluate infrastructure, safety, and security issues, and recommend solutions. Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and general contractors; present formal documentation for approval. Ensure contracts are cost‑effective, fit for purpose, and include appropriate Service Level Agreements. Provide overall site management, coordination, and specification of business proposals, and manage subcontractors. Facilitate due diligence evaluation of new opportunities. Assess project performance through Key Performance Indicators (safety, quality, cost, schedule, sustainability). Partner with teams for transition of base building management and turnover documentation. Coach and guide all project teams throughout the full project lifecycle. Ensure contracted resources deliver work meeting duration and quality targets, addressing under‑performance issues. Audit contractors for skill fit and competency. Inform developers and contractors of projected changes in resource or work demand. Identify and resolve clashes, design misses, and schedule conflicts with other Amazon execution teams. Establish and operate information systems for effective scheduling and recording of contract work. Review designs and ongoing construction for compliance with current building specifications. Review design standards to identify value‑engineering and design enhancement opportunities. Track, forecast, and manage budgets for expansion, remodel, and new build projects. Review and analyze all proposed cost and time change requests. Guide internally requested changes for validity, impact, and cost‑sensitive incorporation. Lead or assist in negotiations with regulatory bodies and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) entities as required. Maintain clear, concise, and transparent cross‑team communication for all aspects of project delivery. The role is remote and will include upwards of 60% regional travel, with potential travel to all North America locations based on business needs. A Day in the Life
