Overview
Engineering Manager - Switchgear Applications at Caterpillar Inc. This role leads a high-performing team of Application and CAD Engineers within the Switchgear organization. Location: Alpharetta, Georgia. On-site five days a week. Travel: minimal (10% or less). Domestic relocation assistance is not offered. Visa sponsorship is not offered. What You Will Do
Lead a team of application engineers and CAD designers in the technical design of generator paralleling switchgear and controls. Lead a team on project submittal execution while monitoring quality, costing, and timeliness of projects. Train, mentor, and develop a team to improve technical capabilities and align with the engineering department’s objectives and strategies. Create and maintain processes and procedures used to create project submittal packages consisting of drawings and BOMs. Review specifications, proposals, estimates, and other contract documents to perform technical reviews of submittal packages. Support inside and outside sales team members with technical solutions and guidance. Support production engineers for successful transition from submittals to production. Act as point of technical and commercial escalation for team members. What You Will Have
Planning: Tactical, Strategic – Working knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to short-term, 1–2 year, and 3–5 year planning in support of the overall business plan. Effective Communications – Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas and information. Problem Solving – Knowledge of approaches and tools to recognize, anticipate, and resolve problems. Technical Excellence – Extensive experience and knowledge in electrical design and related application methods; ability to develop solutions to significant technical challenges. Experience in the design of low and medium voltage switchgear, including power circuit breakers and complex paralleling generator control systems. Strong understanding of protective relays, generator controls, and PLC/SCADA networks and protocols. Familiarity with internal engineering standards and external codes (NEC, UL, ANSI, CSA). Experience managing and applying standards in electrical design and control systems. Previous experience with PLC-based control systems and generator sets, including multi-generator configurations paralleling with utility sources. Interpretation of customer specifications and drawings; dealer/consultant interaction. Education
