Senior Commissioning Engineer
Base pay range: $120,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr
Location: New York City, NY (must be located or willing to relocate to NYC)
Role: Hybrid
About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead commissioning activities for complex projects across New York City. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and building systems are designed, installed, tested, and operated according to the owner’s requirements and industry standards.
You’ll work closely with project managers, design teams, contractors, and facility operators to deliver high-performance buildings that meet sustainability, safety, and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage commissioning processes for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems
Develop and implement commissioning plans, schedules, and protocols
Review design documents and specifications to ensure commissioning requirements are integrated
Conduct site inspections, functional performance testing, and verification of system installations
Coordinate with contractors and vendors to resolve issues during commissioning
Document commissioning results and prepare final reports for client handover
Ensure compliance with LEED, ASHRAE, NYC Building Code, and other relevant standards
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning practices
Support client meetings and provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or related field)
Minimum 5 years of experience in building commissioning, preferably in NYC or similar urban environments
Strong knowledge of MEP systems and building automation controls
Familiarity with commissioning software and tools (CxAlloy, Bluebeam, etc.)
Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Professional Engineering (PE) license or Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) is a plus
LEED accreditation preferred
