Overview Electrical Engineering Designer role at Penn State University within the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). The Mechanical and Electrical Design and Drafting (MEDD) Service Center collaborates with ARL Research Offices to create CAD-based mechanical and electrical designs including drawing compliance and design configuration management support. ARL conducts research and development to support the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This position requires 100% on-site work in State College, Pennsylvania, with potential hybrid options depending on research requirements. Remote and hybrid work approvals are not guaranteed. Responsibilities

Assist engineering programs needing electrical (ECAD) design support through collaboration with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support Specialists

Create schematics, printed wiring boards, circuit card assemblies, bills of materials, and other documentation using accepted methods and techniques

Utilize ARL’s Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (Teamcenter) to properly archive and perform configuration management of all design documentation

Facilitate work intake, estimation, and execution; reporting to senior management as requested

Participate in, and occasionally lead meetings and design reviews

Maintain all required compliance training related to business systems, safety, and security

Qualifications Required:

Experience in ECAD software to develop schematics, printed wiring boards, circuit card assemblies, library parts, and bills of materials

Past success in leading or supervising teams

Working knowledge of printed wiring board construction, fabrication, and assembly

Past success with project deliverables and team tracking

Preferred:

Altium ECAD software

Siemens Teamcenter PLM software

Microsoft Office Product Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio

Significant knowledge of electrical systems such as power electronics, analog, digital, RF, and EMI

IPC CID and / or CID+ certification, or general knowledge of IPC standards

Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required

Location: Your working location is required to be 100% on-site, located in State College, Pennsylvania. Options may exist for a hybrid work from office and work from home scenario dependent upon research requirements. Minimum Education, Work Experience & Required Certifications Engineering Designer - Principal Professional: Associate Degree 8+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted. Required Certifications: None.

Engineering Designer - Senior Professional: Associate Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted. Required Certifications: None.

Salary & Benefits The salary range for this position is $61,800.00 - $102,300.00, and may be impacted by geographic differential.
