Physical (Outdoor) Substation Engineer

Overview Physical (Outdoor) Substation Engineer at Mesa Associates, Inc. This mid-level position supports engineering design of physical substation projects within the power delivery industry. The successful candidate shall have experience in the field of Power Substation Engineering Design within the US Power industry. A BSEE or BSME from an ABET-accredited University is required. The role involves collaborative design support for physical design of Power Substations ranging from 12.5 kV to 500 kV. The candidate will be expected to be skilled in many aspects of Physical Substation design, capable of evaluating project packages for adherence to standards and constructability, and will mentor and train junior engineers and designers as well as coordinate with other design disciplines (P&C, Civil/Structural, etc.). Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is required. Proficiency in verbal and written communication is required. Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain would be considered a plus.

Education/Experience

A BSEE or BSME from an ABET accredited University (required)

5+ years of experience working in the power utility industry

Responsibilities

Perform Physical Substation design with a high degree of accuracy (Quality)

Work well as a team member as well as individually

Use AutoCAD/MicroStation to create the assigned deliverables

Interact with the Customer and meet their schedule and budgeting requirements

Provide scoping support

Attend site visits located around Plainfield, IN, Cincinnati, OH, and/or the greater Carolinas region

Mentor junior Engineers/Designers

Review work of other team members

Perform work safely
