The Central Sterile & Reprocess Tech (Endoscopy) provides care to patients undergoing procedural intervention in compliance with policies and procedures of Surgical Services, AORN, JCAHO, OSHA, and AMI standards. The Central Sterile & Reprocess Tech must have a working knowledge of decontamination, instrumentation, sterilization, and the building of case carts. The Technician is also responsible for the processing of any sterilized product across the hospital. The Central Sterile & Reprocess Tech provides technical assistance with all procedures throughout various departments of the hospital under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager. Responsibilities
Decontamination: Receives soiled case carts and instruments into the decontamination area; scans instruments; pre-cleans lumened instruments; operates washer functions; prepares case carts; maintains solution levels; ensures proper drying and storage.
Instruments: Maintains communication with OR and SPD; assembles and verifies instrument sets; inspects for damage; communicates needs; replaces damaged instruments; wraps items for sterilization.
Sterilization: Understands SPD and OR sterilization techniques; troubleshoots issues; initiates daily sterilization routine including checks, biological monitoring, and record-keeping; loads items into the Impress system; ensures proper cycle penetration and cooling.
Case Carts: Pulls pick lists; assembles case trays for services; maintains preference cards; prepares needs lists for next day cases; updates as changes occur.
Other Duties: Distributes crash carts, decontaminates equipment, restocks and delivers sterile items across units; demonstrates a positive, respectful demeanor; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High school education or equivalent. Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions. Basic working knowledge of computers and ability to operate computerized equipment.
Licensure: Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician preferred.
Training and Experience: 2 years previous Central Processing or Operating Room experience preferred.
Job Knowledge: Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, asepsis, sterilization and decontamination procedures; familiarity with SPD equipment and case carts; computer literacy to utilize hospital systems.
Demands
Physical: Walking and standing most of the shift; bending, reaching, lifting 30 to 40 pounds; handling instrument sets; pushing/pulling sterilizer carts; visual and aural acuity; ability to respond to environment changes.
