Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Cancer Center. Responsible for performing medically prescribed nuclear medicine procedures. Works under general direction.
Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Operates hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to nuclear medicine. Correctly chooses appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Demonstrates ability to access patient information such as appointment times, type of exam, and patient reports. Is knowledgeable of the total cycle of RIS patient tracking. Documents beginning, completion and departure times in the RIS when appropriate. Accesses patient data for verification of orders and is competent in scheduling exams in RIS, including modifications when necessary. Assesses patient information and status, follows appropriate procedures, and uses standard procedures to identify the correct patient. Verifies patient identity, communicates with the patient, reviews requisition requirements, and confers with medical staff as needed. Follows established protocols and isolation precautions as indicated. Independently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Explains procedures and equipment to the patient and obtains formal consent when necessary. Provides for patient comfort and privacy, and maintains rapport throughout the procedure. Gathers knowledge of patient preparation, ensuring patient comfort, appropriate attire, pre-medications, and other necessary preparations. Prepares radiopharmaceutical doses using proper procedures and calculations. Verifies label on radiopharmaceutical vial, calculates activity, determines required patient dose, and verifies radioactivity with a dose calibrator. Calibrates and dispenses radioactive material; positions patient and equipment for the study; adjusts settings for maximum information; records data as needed; analyzes data and reports results to the physician. Solves problems during examinations, adapts procedures as needed, and collaborates with other technologists on prior approaches. Assists physicians during procedures, uses efficient methods to complete examinations in a reasonable time, and handles image transmission to PACS. Maintains cleanliness of the procedure area and prepares equipment and supplies for future exams. Adjusts work schedules for STAT or emergency cases and recognizes medical emergencies. Independently performs non-imaging procedures per departmental protocols. Collects specimens when required and handles radiopharmaceuticals per standard practice. Radiopharmacy - preps doses and standards, performs quality checks, handles generator eluate, and prepares radiopharmaceuticals per manufacturer's specifications. Radiation Control - disposes of radioactive waste per policy, conducts contamination surveys, and performs decontamination as needed. Quality Control - performs routine imaging system evaluations, maintains QC procedures, and ensures accuracy of dose administration and related records. Documentation - maintains records for quality control, dose preparation and administration, receipt of radioactive materials, and contamination surveys. Executes equipment setup, operation, and maintenance; selects appropriate collimator and imaging parameters; reports equipment malfunctions; ensures safe use of all equipment in accordance with procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related health field (required for hires after August 1, 2016). Nuclear Medicine permit issued by NYS Department of Health for new graduates. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) certification. Strong communication, problem solving, and customer service skills. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office. Thorough knowledge of Nuclear Medicine equipment.
Required Licenses:
Nuclear Medicine Technologist License, Nuclear Medicine Tech Certification (NMTCB), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $103,672.00 - $116,052.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The stated range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
