Be among the first 25 applicants The Veterinary Clinic team at the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center provides comprehensive medical care to animals impounded at the facility. Each year, the center cares for approximately 5,000 – 6,000 animals and performs around 2,000 spay or neuter surgeries, along with a wide range of preventative and critical care services. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Veterinarians, the Licensed Veterinary Technician plays a key role in delivering compassionate, high-quality medical care to shelter animals. This includes surgical assistance, medical diagnostics, treatment, and ongoing patient care. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Provide compassionate care to all animal patients. Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care for canine and feline patients. Support surgical procedures, including monitoring and recording vitals and assisting with anesthesia administration. Administer IV and subcutaneous fluids as needed. Conduct diagnostic testing including heartworm, feline leukemia, fecal exams, and other lab tests. Collect and process specimens for laboratory analysis. Administer medications, vaccinations, and injections as prescribed. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records. Manage inventory and maintain accurate controlled substance logs in compliance with regulations. Order medical supplies and medications on a weekly basis. Collaborate with veterinarians and shelter staff to support the overall care and well-being of animals in the facility. A $5,000

hiring bonus

is being offered for this position in installments and subject to a repayment agreement. The first payment of $2,500 is issued within the first pay period unless unlicensed at the time of hire, at which time, it will be paid once the licensing requirements have been met. The final hiring bonus installment, $2,500, will be awarded upon the completion of the probation period. This bonus shall only be awarded if performance is rated as "Meets Expectations." Traffic Violations : Any conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refusal to take blood or breath test, eluding police, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident within the last 5 years. Drugs : Any involvement in the sale of illegal drugs as an adult. Any illegal use or possession of any illegal drug, including but not limited to heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens, or any derivative thereof (except marijuana) within the last five years.
