Summary of Job Duties The Radiation Therapist is responsible for administering, simulating and recording radiation treatment set-ups to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Operations Director, responsible for radiation therapy procedures, dose calculations, chart, and routine consistency checks on the treatment machine and simulator during a treatment day, five days a week. Incumbent is subject to overtime and call back as required by the center.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in radiation therapy PLUS two (2) years of experience in a healthcare environment OR Bachelor's degree in radiation therapy
Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as a radiation therapist with an accredited program of radiation therapy technology PLUS Current Licensure as a Radiation Therapist with the Arkansas Department of Health.
Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
Responsibilities
Positions patients for treatment with accuracy and administers doses of radiation to specific body parts using radiation therapy equipment according to physician's prescription and established practices and standards.
Monitors radiation therapy equipment to ensure proper operation and follows principles of radiation protection to ensure safety for patient, self, and others.
Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.
Maintains required records, reports, and files, including radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient's reaction.
Conducts treatment sessions independently, in accordance with long term treatment plan and under the general direction of patient's physician.
Inputs data into computer and sets controls to operate and adjust equipment or regulate dosage.
Observes and reassures patients during treatment and reports unusual reactions to physician.
Performs other duties as assigned.
