To perform computerized tomography exams on patients under the supervision of a radiologist in accordance with UMMC policies and procedures. To maintain accurate patient records and prepare equipment for physician's use. Education & Experience
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:
Mississippi Radiologic Technologist license by hire date; BLS required (can be obtained within the first ninety (90) days of hire); ARRT registration within six (6) months of hire; ARRT registration in computed tomography within twenty-four (24) months of hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of computerized tomography exam procedures. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to explain exam procedures and alleviate patient anxiety. Responsibilities
Administers computerized tomography exams under a radiologist's request and supervision including tomographs, fluoroscopes, and radiographs. Greets patient and completes preliminary interview prior to exam. Sanitizes examination rooms and prepares rooms with supplies and equipment. Starts IVs for patients prior to scan. Explains exam procedures to the patient in order to educate the patient and relieve anxiety. Ensures compliance with safety measures. The duties listed are general in nature and are examples of the duties and responsibilities performed and are not meant to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Management retains the right to add or change duties at any time. Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations. Will include occasional working hours beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travel to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, frequent lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, crawling, crouching/stooping, driving, kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, and walking (varies by shift and duties).
