Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse B * Inpatient, utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide, coordinate, and document direct/indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate, quality patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) in accordance with LLUMC's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice, applying theoretical concepts to clinical practice, and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge and clinical skills within their specialty and patient population. Demonstrates professionalism and maximizes excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Functions in a skills mix environment, directly supervising and delegating tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications, and competencies as defined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Contributes to a caring and cooperative work environment among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. May participate in on-call rotations based on department needs and may serve as Shift Coordinator after orientation. Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired into the CN-B position before April 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing is required. Minimum of one year of experience is required. New hires may be promoted to CN-C classification upon meeting criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications. Knowledge and Skills:

Demonstrates basic clinical nursing competencies. Applies theoretical concepts to practice, expanding knowledge and skills, focusing on the area of specialty and patient population. Has basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation. Exhibits professionalism, works calmly under pressure, and responds courteously. Skills include effective communication in English (Spanish preferred), proficiency with computers and software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, EMR, electronic reporting), troubleshooting patient care equipment, performing technical activities, and professional interaction. Able to lead, supervise, teach, collaborate, accept direction, think critically, work independently, perform basic math, manage multiple tasks, organize workload, problem-solve, recall information accurately, and attend to detail. Also, able to distinguish colors and smells as needed, discern temperature variances, hear sufficiently for communication, and see adequately for reading and documentation. Licensures and Certifications:

Active California RN license required. BLS certification from the American Heart Association required. Additional certifications as specified in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
